Why Tai Chi? Why Qigong?

Qigong (pronounced chee-kung) is an ancient exercise system that is older than the written word.  Gentle movements, deep breathing and intentIMG_4594 mind focus combine to create a state of relaxation which optimizes the body’s natural recovery and healing.

Qigong is the “mother” of Tai Chi.  Tai Chi, or Taiji, is a martial art that traces back to the 1600’s.  Tai Chi utilizes the awareness and relaxation of Qigong to effortlessly absorb and deflect assailants.  We can also use Tai Chi to effectively neutralize our “inner demons” and to cultivate the strength and confidence of a peaceful warrior.

Qigong movements are coordinated with deep breathing, repeated many times, and quickly develop a state of deep relaxation.  Tai Chi movements are more complex, dance-like and sequential with one movement leading to the next.  Modern research is finding that Qigong excels at promoting relaxation, boosting the immune system, and enhancing general body function.  Tai Chi  has been proven to improve balance and enhance brain plasticity.
